Coline and André get along perfectly with Garance, their daughter, and Harold, their son-in-law. But when Garance leaves Harold and asks her parents never to see him again, the couple refuses to cut ties with someone they still consider family.
Beaux-parents hinges on this family twist: a breakup doesn’t end the emotional bond with their former son-in-law. To keep seeing Harold, Coline and André dive into a double life built on secret meetings, lies, and comical misunderstandings.
The idea for the film came from Bénabar, who had imagined the scenario from a song. Héctor Cabello Reyes, a regular collaborator of Éric Lavaine on several comedies such as Barbecue and Retour chez ma mère, uses it to craft a situational comedy focused on family loyalties and the attachments that survive a breakup.
The movie also features a genuine on-screen pairing between Josiane Balasko and Didier Bourdon, here cast as Coline and André, opposite Bénabar and Charlie Bruneau. The ensemble also includes Bruno Salomone and Ruggero Raimondi.
