After being selected to represent France at the Oscar for Best International Film in 2023, Alice Diop's Saint Omer won the César for Best First Film at the 48th César ceremony on Friday, February 24.

Rama, a young novelist, attends the trial of Laurence Coly at the Saint-Omer court of assizes. The latter is accused of having killed her fifteen-month-old daughter by abandoning her on the rising tide on a beach in northern France. But during the trial, the defendant's words and the testimonies of the witnesses shake Rama's certainties and question our judgment.
