Harassment in transport: how to react, who to contact if you are a victim or witness?

Have you ever witnessed or experienced harassment on public transportation in the capital and the Île-de-France region? Very often, we don't know how to react, so here are the numbers and contacts to turn to when faced with such a situation.

Whether you are a victim or a witness to harassment, it is the same process. And even if you've never been in one of these situations, it's still helpful to know how to react (besides common sense) and what numbers to call.

The number to store in your phone right away is 3117. You can call the number directly, send an SOS with a simple SMS to 31 17 7 or even discreetly give the alert from the mobile application 31 17 Alert, the app, available for iPhone and Android (which we should all have on our smartphones, just in case). A "37 17" button is also available on the Ile-de-France Mobilités mobile application, on its homepage or, as a last resort, you can use the call stations in SNCF or RATP stations tolaunch an alert.

RATP assures us that operators are on hand 24/7 for each of these reporting systems.

In 2021, more than 900 people were victims of sexual violence in Île-de-France, the vast majority of them women, on public transport alone. In almost half of these cases, the victims did not know how to react or were unable to do so, so every report can help to reduce this violence, which unfortunately occurs every day on public transport in the Paris region.
