Beware, temperatures continue to rise! Starting this Saturday, June 21, 2025, the capital and the whole of the Île-de-France region are set to experience an episode of intense heat, with temperatures soaring to 37°C. Under clear skies, this first heatwave of the summer promises to be brief, but significant, with tropical nights and an expected pollution peak.

The Paris region is currently experiencing a gradual rise in temperatures. In Paris, the heatwave promises to be particularly early and intense. By Friday, the thermometer will be reading 33°C, before peaking on Saturday and Sunday, with maximum temperatures expected to reach between 35 and 37°C. The atmosphere is likely to be suffocating, reinforced by the absence of wind and night-time temperatures in excess of 20°C, particularly in the capital's densely populated districts.

Why is it so hot in Paris?

This sudden burst of heat is caused by a high pressure system firmly entrenched over France, blocking the arrival of cooler air. This phenomenon, coupled with an upwelling of warm air from the Sahara and Iberia, created a veritable heat dome over the region. The result: a stifling atmosphere, close to the all-time records set in June 1947 (37.6°C) and 2017 (36.9°C).

Tropical nights and hard-to-breathe air

In inner Paris, theurban heat island effect further accentuates the feeling of suffocation. Minimum temperatures won't dip below 20°C, complicating sleep. Added to this is a peak in ozone pollution, favoured by the strong sunshine and absence of wind.

What are the risks and how can you protect yourself?

Although short-lived, this heatwave can have serious effects on health: dehydration, sunstroke and heatstroke are to be feared, especially by the frail. We recommend that you :

  • Drink regularly, even if you're not thirsty,

  • Avoid going out during the hottest hours (12 p.m. to 6 p.m.),

  • Close the shutters during the day and air out at night,

  • Cool your body several times a day,

  • Check on vulnerablefamily members.

And after this scorching weekend?

Although the heatwave itself is expected to last only until Sunday evening, temperatures will remain high next week, with maximums of around 30°C forecast until early July. An early summer is thus setting in for the capital.

In short: plan to stay hydrated, protect yourself from the sun andavoid physical exertion this weekend in Paris. A short but intense heatwave is in store, worthy of the hottest summers on record in the region. If you're planning to celebrate La Musique in Paris, don't forget your water bottles and fans. If the heat becomes too stifling, think of the capital's "îlots de fraicheur" (cool islands), listed by the city council.

For further information and advice, please consult the Météo-France website and the recommendations of the health authorities. With the mercury unlikely to fall any time soon, we're going to have to find ways to cool off, and why not take a dip in one of Île-de-France's leisure centres?
