Presented at the Cannes Film Festival, "As Bestas", the new film by Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen ("El Reino", "Madre"), also won the César for Best Foreign Film. In the cast of this shocking film, we find the French Denis Ménochet and Marina Foïs. The film is broadcast this Tuesday, February 28, 2023 on Canal +.

Rodrigo Sorogoyen, the most popular Spanish filmmaker of the moment is back with a new film. As Bestas received the César for the best foreign film, this Friday, February 24. This shocking film was one of our favorites of the Cannes Film Festival 2022, where it was presented in the Cannes Première section. However, the feature film would have had a place in the official competition, and even on the list of winners!

After having filmed a Spanish woman in France in Madre, the director goes the other way around and focuses on a French couple in Spain. Antoine and Olga, played by Denis Ménochet and Marina Foïs, are farmers in a small village in the Galician countryside, but their presence displeases the last inhabitants of the area. The latter will do everything to make life difficult for them. Behind this simple pitch lies a suffocating thriller. As usual, Sorogoyen creates tension by taking a long time. His long sequences create anguish in the viewer with simple details, often in the background.

As Bestas is a huge slap in the face from which one does not emerge unscathed. Without a doubt one of the best films of the year. Denis Ménochet proves once again that he is one of the best French actors of his generation and Marina Foïs, that she has a lot to give outside of comedy. The two Spanish actors who play the inconvenient neighbors, Luis Zahera and Diego Anido, are not to be outdone and manage to be terrifying with their simple looks. In addition to being a great film of direction, it is a great film of actors, not to be missed under any circumstances!
