It was the favorite of all the juries of the film festivals in which Les Pires played. Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret 's first film won five awards in five different festivals, including the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, in the Un Certain Regard section. It will be released in theaters on December 7, 2022.
For a first film, this is an impressive achievement. The directors Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret have already shown a great mastery. In this feature film, they explore the concept of wild casting, used for years in cinema. On the edge of documentary, they tell the story of a shooting in Boulogne-sur-mer, in the north of France.
Several young people with problems from the city are selected to play in it, while the other inhabitants do not understand why the director chose"the worst". Both very funny and moving, these young people with difficult lives will be strongly affected by this shooting, which sometimes echoes their lives.
For once, we have the impression of seeing a film about a city where the people who live there are not clichés, nor the rejects of society. Very endearing, the characters of the young amateur actors are touching when they reveal themselves, throughout the shooting, and their flaws emerge.
Les Pires is about cinema, precariousness, life in a housing estate (and for once, a housing estate that is not in the Île-de-France, a fact that is rare enough to be underlined), about reputation, and the film speaks well of this. The film is one of our favorites of the year.
