For the first time, DC Studios is dedicating a feature film entirely to Barry Allen, aka The Flash. With many unexpected appearances, including Michael Keaton as Batman, General Zod and Supergirl, the trailer promised a show full of surprises. With the film due to hit cinemas on June 14, 2023, the editors give their verdict on the film.

We all remember the trailer that rekindled the hype around the latest film in theDC universe, The Flash, first unveiled at Super Bowl. Despite the antics of lead actor Ezra Miller, incessant postponements of the release date and a rumored cancellation, the film will finally see the light of day on June 14, 2023.

Directed by Andy Muschietti (the Ça diptych), The Flash has fans of the DC universe excited, not least because of the presence of Ben Affleck, but also of Michael Keaton in the role of Batman, whose last appearance as the character dates back to Batman, the Challenge, over 30 years ago. Other surprises include Man of Steel villain Zod, played by Michael Shannon, and Supergirl, played by first-time actress Sasha Calle.

The trailer for The Flash :

Our opinion:

For this first feature film entirely dedicated to The Flash, the superhero with "super-speed" and time-travel powers, DC Studios has thought big. Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash, in his quest to save his family, disrupts his reality by jumping back in time. Finding himself trapped in a universe where General Zod has returned and not all superheroes are as he imagined, Barry must enlist the help of a retired Batman if he hopes to restore the flow of time.

The latest creation from DC Studios stands out from previous blockbusters in the universe. The film is full of pleasant surprises and surprises with its fluidity. We're delighted to see one of the doyens of Batman, Michael Keaton, back on screen, even if the more recent Ben Affleck is largely sidelined as a result.

The Flash has a number of shortcomings, not least of which are the lengthy fight scenes, which cause the film to fall back into traditional studio fare. Apart from a few redundancies that make the 2.5 hours of film sometimes laborious, The Flash doesn't fail to raise some fairly interesting issues, striking a relative balance between humor and emotion. A number of touching scenes are sure to make an impression, if you let yourself get caught up in them.

The Flash is also strikingly similar in its multiverse theme - a recurring theme in the MCU - to films such as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, currently in cinemas.

While The Flash undoubtedly ranks among DC's best, its form often remains clumsy. All in all, it's a successful gamble for fans of the universe, and one that will undoubtedly find its audience.

On the occasion of the film's premiere, The Flash even made a little detour to Paris, where he lit up the Champs-Élysées avenue.
