Éternité, the romantic drama directed by Tran Anh Hung, is airing on France 4 on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. Adapted from Alice Ferney's novel The Elegance of Widows, this film stars Audrey Tautou, Bérénice Bejo and Mélanie Laurent, tracing a century of lives across several generations of women.
At the turn of the century, Valentine marries Jules and starts a family. Over the decades, her descendants likewise ride the joys, sorrows and upheavals of life. Tracking this lineage through to the end of the 20th century, Éternité offers a sweeping epic about transmission, love and the passage of time.
Around the three leading actresses, the cast also features Jérémie Renier, Pierre Deladonchamps, Irène Jacob, and Arieh Worthalter. True to his contemplative cinema, Tran Anh Hung foregrounds emotion, looks, and mise en scène over a conventional narrative.
