An encounter at Coachella turns a divorced mother’s life upside down in The Idea of You, airing on TFX. Anne Hathaway plays Solène, a 40-year-old art gallery owner, opposite Nicholas Galitzine as Hayes Campbell, lead singer of the band August Moon.
Solène accompanies her daughter to the festival after her ex-husband backs out. Her encounter with Hayes sparks a relationship that is immediately tested by the young man’s fame. Public scrutiny and the age gap between them become obstacles to a romance they would have preferred to keep private.
Michael Showalter, director of The Big Sick, adapts Robinne Lee’s novel, with Jennifer Westfeldt writing the screenplay. Ella Rubin plays Solène’s daughter; Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo and Perry Mattfeld complete the cast. The 2024 film retains its focus on Solène’s life and the consequences of the affair for those close to her.
