Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel, will air on TMC on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 9:25 PM. Johnny Depp stars as Willy Wonka opposite Freddie Highmore, who plays young Charlie Bucket.
Charlie and his family live in modest circumstances. When Wonka announces that five golden tickets hidden in his chocolate bars will grant a tour of his chocolate factory, the boy hopes to finally glimpse the place that has been off-limits to the public for years.
The 2005 feature film revisits the 1964 novel, which had already been adapted for the screen by Mel Stuart in 1971 with Gene Wilder. In other words, this is another adaptation of Roald Dahl’s work, not a sequel to the earlier movie. The screenplay is by John August.
Johnny Depp teams up again with Tim Burton, after roles such as Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood and Sleepy Hollow. The score is by Danny Elfman, another longtime collaborator of the filmmaker. The film opened in French cinemas on July 13, 2005.
