A particularly exciting film, at the crossroads of several genres and techniques, is about to make its grand premiere at the Cannes 2024 Film Festival. Entitled Eat the Night, Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel 's film has been selected for the Quinzaine des Cinéastes.
Pablo (Théo Cholbi) and his sister Apolline (Lila Gueneau) escape their daily lives by playing Darknoon, the video game they grew up playing. One day, Pablo meets Night (Erwan Kepoa Falé), whom he introduces to the game and distances himself from Apolline. As the end of the game looms, the two boys provoke the wrath of a rival gang...
While Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel have directed several films separately(Chiens for Caroline, Notre amour est assez puissant for Jonathan), they've also been behind the camera together several times, with the short Tant qu'il nous reste des fusils à pompe in 2014, which won the Berlinale Golden Bear; then Notre Héritage and Jessica Forever .
The Quinzaine des Cinéastes review: "Poggi and Vinel sign their Ready Player One: a film that grafts animation onto live action, thriller onto romance, adulthood onto childhood . Eat the Night is a terribly ambitious project for the young French cinema , plunging us into the world of Darknoon, a 3D heroic fantasy multiplayer video game specially designed for the film. It's an apocalyptic film, about the farewell to adolescence, but also a true love film, shot in the surreal atmosphere of Le Havre."
