Last-minute addition to the official selection! Bi Gan's new film, Resurrection, joins the Official Competition of the Cannes Film Festival 2025, and is in fact in contention for the next Palme d'Or.
10 years after making a name for himself with his debut film, Kaili Blues, the Chinese filmmaker is set to land on the Croisette with a highly-anticipated third feature, starring Jackson Yee, Shu Qi and Mark Chao.
As a reminder, his second film, Un grand voyage vers la nuit, was unveiled in the Un Certain Regard selection at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Bi Gan has now moved up to the 'superior' category, and could well win the prestigious Palme d'Or this year.
Resurrection will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.
Synopsis: A woman has catapulted herself into a post-apocalyptic future, where she seeks to repair a half-robot, half-human man, metaphorically recounting parts of Chinese history. She must then choose between returning to the real world or remaining alone with this bionic being, for whom she is beginning to develop feelings.
