The Chéries-Chéris Festival has unveiled the lineup for its 32nd edition. Fiction films, documentaries and short films make up this LGBTQIA+ cinema event, which features competitions, panoramas and special screenings.
Two films set the tone: The Blood Countess, directed by Ulrike Ottinger, has been selected for the opening ceremony, while La Bola Negra, by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, closes the festival. The program pairs these highlights with discoveries from the competition and offerings outside the competition.
Heritage also has a place in this edition. A tribute looks back at the work of Rosa von Praunheim, including Surviving in New York and The Einstein of Sex. Other screenings are devoted to Norbert Terry and François About, two directors of French gay pornographic cinema.
Queer creativity is also discussed beyond the screenings: a panel explores the relationship between lived experience and the freedom to invent, while a workshop focuses on screenwriting. It’s a chance to extend the discovery of the films with a reflection on the people who write them.
