Original title: The Bojarski Case
Nationality: France
Jan Bojarski, a young Polish engineer who sought refuge in France during World War II, puts his talents to work for the Resistance by forging forged papers. After the war, his lack of civil status prevents him from existing legally: he can’t file patents and is doomed to precarious jobs despite a recognized genius. When a gangster offers him the chance to use his skills to produce counterfeit money, he agrees and leads a double life hidden from his family — until he catches the eye of Inspector Mattei (Bastien Bouillon), regarded as the best cop in France.
The film is co-written by Jean-Paul Salomé and Bastien Daret, grounded in extensive historical research. Reda Kateb plays Bojarski, a character Salomé describes as “à la Simenon”—lonely and morally murky. Sara Giraudeau delivers a portrayal caught in the intimate fallout of this double life. Shot in 45 days across Paris, Lyon, and Vichy, the film recreates, in particular, the engineer’s clandestine workshop using period photos and plans. The soundtrack is by Mathieu Lamboley.
