The Cannes Film Festival has unveiled its official lineup for the 2026 edition, scheduled from May 12 to 23, and Asghar Farhadi's Parallel Stories is among the lucky selections. Not surprising, given that the Iranian director is a seasoned regular on the festival's red carpets.
In 2013, he unveiled his film The Past, shot in France and largely in French, which took the Best Actress award for Bérénice Bejo. In 2016, his film The Client swept the Best Screenplay prize at the Cannes Festival, as well as the Best Actor award for Shahab Hosseini.
As a jury member in 2022, under the presidency of Vincent Lindon, Asghar Farhadi made a notable return in 2021 with Un Héros, which won the Cannes Film Festival's Grand Prix, tied with Juho Kuosmanen's Compartiment n° 6.
In Histoires Parallèles, set for release on Thursday May 16, 2026, the Iranian filmmaker taps a 100% French cast: Isabelle Huppert, Virginie Efira, Vincent Cassel and Pierre Niney.
Synopsis : In search of inspiration for her new novel, Sylvie spies on the neighbors across the street. When she hires the young Adam to help with everyday tasks, she doesn’t realize he will upend her life and her work, until the fiction she had imagined overtakes their reality.
