The Cannes Film Festival lineup for 2026 has been unveiled, with the edition running May 12 to 23, and it features a number of titles directed by women as well as several French productions. La Vie d’une femme by Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet ticks both boxes, as it’s among the works selected by the festival’s selection committee.
At Cannes, the French director has steadily climbed the ranks, initially unveiling a short film, Pauline asservie, at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 during the Critics' Week, then presenting her feature debut Les Amours d'Anaïs during the 60th Critics' Week, in a special screening. The cast of this new film features renowned French actors: Léa Drucker, Mélanie Thierry and Charles Berling.
Synopsis : Gabrielle, 55, has thrown herself wholly into her work. A surgeon and department head at a public hospital, she moves at breakneck speed, burdened by a flood of responsibilities. Her private life is spare: a loving husband and a mother she must care for. When a novelist spends a few weeks in her unit to research a book, Gabrielle’s carefully balanced world begins to wobble. In the routine she’s built, is there room left for the unexpected?
