The Festival de Cannes, which attracts professionals and cinephiles from around the world each year, has unveiled its sélection 2026. Among the films in contention for the upcoming Palme d'Or, the new feature by Marie Kreutzer, titled Gentle Monster, will be shown on the Croisette from May 12 to 23.
Although the Austrian filmmaker may be less well known than some of her peers in the official competition at Cannes, her career remains prolific. Her feature film Der Boden unter den Füßen was selected for the Berlin International Film Festival in 2019, competing for the Golden Bear.
For Gentle Monster, Marie Kreutzer has tapped our very own Léa Seydoux to portray a mother of a family, in this family drama with an intriguing synopsis.
Synopsis : Lucy and Philip are a happy family who have just moved with their son into a country house near Munich. One morning their world is upended when police arrive at their door to arrest Philip and seize his computers. Traumatized, Lucy sets out to uncover the truth about her husband. Who is he really? Should she keep him away from their son?
