A flagship event in world cinema, the Festival de Cannes 2026 has unveiled its official selection for the edition running May 12–23. Emmanuel Marre's film Notre Salut is among the chosen titles, a lucky pick that automatically contends for the Palme d'Or 2026.
If the name of this French director may not ring a bell yet, it’s because we’re talking about only his second feature. But he’s no stranger to the Croisette: his debut feature, Rien à Foutre with Adèle Exarchopoulos, was unveiled at the Critics Week in 2021, where he also took home the GAN Foundation Award for Broadcasting.
With this new film, Emmanuel Marre draws on his own family history, with Swann Arlaud in a role inspired, though fictional, by his great-grandfather.
Synopsis : September 1940. Henri Marre arrives solo in Vichy, armed with little to his name and big ambitions to make himself a place in the new regime. In his suitcase, a self-taught political manuscript titled Notre salut that he intends to publish. Henri wants to help save France from catastrophe, but maybe, above all, he’s trying to save himself from his own collapse…
