Thirteen travelers, a world-cut-off hotel, and a death that may hide a murder. The Spanish miniseries The Final Problem will arrive in France on Netflix on September 25, 2026. Adapted from Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s novel, it casts José Coronado as a former actor dragged into an investigation that unfolds like a classic crime thriller.
In the spring of 1959, a storm strands thirteen people on a tiny islet off Mallorca. Gathered in a secluded hotel that no one can leave or reach, the travelers see their stay take a dark turn when Elisa Mander, a discreet British tourist, is found dead.
At first, it seems like a suicide. Yet several clues start to cast doubt on that theory and raise the possibility of foul play. In this closed setting, every guest and every member of the staff becomes a potential suspect.
José Coronado stars as Basil, a retired actor who was once best known for playing Sherlock Holmes on the big screen. His familiarity with the Arthur Conan Doyle character nudges him, almost involuntarily, to scrutinize the circumstances surrounding Elisa’s death and to uncover the inconsistencies hidden behind the testimonies.
He pursues the case alongside Foxá, a young crime novelist played by Martiño Rivas. Their investigation leads them to scrutinize the other guests at the hotel, notably Adela, a mysterious traveler portrayed by María Valverde, and the hotel manager, played by Maribel Verdú.
By placing all its characters in an inescapable setting, The Final Problem revives the locked-room mystery: the culprit must be among those present, and every new revelation reshuffles the list of suspects. The series also sits within the Sherlock Holmes homage that Arturo Pérez-Reverte developed in his 2023 novel.
Alongside José Coronado, María Valverde, Martiño Rivas and Maribel Verdú, the ensemble features Gonzalo de Castro as Fonseca, Cristina Kovani as Vicky, José Condessa as Toni, and Pepón Nieto as Seruya.
The miniseries is directed by Félix Viscarret. Its adaptation is penned by Alberto Macías, Carlos Molinero and Marisol Farré. Produced by Mod Producciones, it will be available on Netflix from September 25, 2026.
