Kad Merad and Benoît Poelvoorde go head to head in Fausse Note, Alexandre Arcady’s claustrophobic historical drama that hits cinemas today.

Fausse Note, Alexandre Arcady's new film, hits theaters on October 7, 2026. Adapted from a play by Didier Caron, this 90-minute drama reunites Kad Merad and Benoît Poelvoorde in a claustrophobic, closed setting where music revives a shared history long buried.

Paris, 1990. As Europe redefines itself in the wake of the Berlin Wall’s fall, internationally renowned conductor Nathan Dinkel presents his final performance at the Opéra-Comique. At the end of the show, a particularly tenacious admirer, Alexandre Miller, manages to slip backstage.

Behind the facade of an ordinary fan, the visitor isn’t there for a mere autograph. His abrupt intrusion pushes the musician into an uneasy confrontation. As the night wears on, power dynamics shift and the past that links the two men gradually resurfaces, throwing memory, guilt, truth, and justice into the spotlight.

Kad Merad plays Nathan Dinkel, while Benoît Poelvoorde lends his features to Alexandre Miller. Usually associated with comedy, the two actors reunite here in a dramatic register, thirteen years after sharing the screen in Grand Méchant Loup. Caterina Murino portrays Annah Dinkel and Pascale Louange plays Sophie Miller.

False Note rests largely on this confrontation in a claustrophobic space, at the heart of the Opéra-Comique. The music isn’t merely the backdrop to the story: it tracks the shifting balance of power and becomes one of the ways in which the truth emerges.

Alexandre Arcady directs and writes the screenplay for this adaptation. After Le Grand Pardon, L’Union sacrée or more recently Le Petit Blond de la Casbah, the filmmaker returns to recurring themes in his body of work: the transmission of memory, the scars left by history and their consequences on subsequent generations. The film has received support from the Shoah Foundation.

Produced by New Light Films and distributed in France by Maverick Distribution, Fausse Note is a Franco-Belgian co-production. The film opens in French theaters on October 7, 2026.
