The 12th edition of the Champs-Élysées Film Festival, which celebrates French and American independent cinema, came to a close on June 27, 2023. Nicolas Peduzzi's État Limite, a poignant study of challenges in public hospitals, and D. Smith's Kokomo City, a gripping depiction of the lives of four black transsexuals, emerged as the evening's winners. Both films received awards from the main jury and the press jury.
The Grand Prix du Jury for independent feature films went to Kokomo City and État Limite. The Jury Prize for Best American Director went to Sebastian Silva for Rotting in the sun, while the Jury Prize for Best French Director went to Sepideh Farsi for La sirène.
The short film jury awarded LOLLYGAG by Tij D'oyen as the best American short film, and tied for the Grand Prix for best French short film with Phalène by Sarah-Anais Desbenoit and Boléro by Nans Laborde Jourdaa. The best medium-length French film, Euridice Euridice, was directed by Lora Mure-Ravaud.
The Prix France Télévisions was awarded to the short film L'acteur by Raphaël Quenard and Hugo David. The documentaries État Limite and Kokomo City also won awards from the press jury, with a special mention for Purdey and Makenzy Lombet in Il pleut dans la maison by Paloma Sermon-Dai.
The Prix du Public gave its verdict with Stéphan Castang's Vincent doit mourir and Sophie Compton and Reuben Hamlyn's Another Body taking the title of Best Feature Film, while Michelle Keserwany's Les chenilles de Noël, Anne Steffens' Shake up and Sara Gunnarsdóttir's My year of dicks were awarded Best Medium-Length Film and Best Short Film respectively.
The Champs-Élysées Film Festival continues to serve as a showcase for independent cinema, celebrating innovation, creativity and unique voices in the film industry.
