In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you can surf on any surface... with your shield! But how? We tell you!

Discovering the secrets of Hyrule becomes even more exhilarating in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom! Every day, gamers discover new actions and features, making the opus even more complete in its gameplay. And today, we're discovering a little trick to get you down slopes and mountains faster: shield surfing.

"Democratized" in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on Wii, surfing allowed you to glide - and incidentally win a race - down the mountain at full speed! And now this feature makes a triumphant return in Tears of the Kingdom, with a slight modification to the controls.

To shield surf in Tears of the Kingdom, players must perform these actions in order:

  • Block (ZL) + Jump (X) + A

When these actions are performed correctly, Link will begin to surf on the equipped shield. Note that if no shield is equipped, shield surfing will not work. Be sure to equip a shield from the inventory by pressing the left arrow button and using the right stick to select it.

Shield surfing is particularly effective on certain surfaces, including snow, sand and short grass. All three increase Link's speed when he's surfing on his shield. But beware: none of these surfaces is without consequences for your shield. The durability of your shield decreases when used for surfing, and it may eventually break. It is therefore advisable to use a low-level shield for surfing, in order to save your best shields for combat.

A truly fun and exciting gameplay feature, offering new ways to traverse the vast world of Hyrule. So, shall we give surfing a try, friends?
