Surprise, surprise... Professor Layton made a surprise appearance during the Nintendo Direct on February 8, 2023. A brand-new game is in the works for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. This is great news for fans of the series, who had long given up hope of seeing another puzzle adventure from Level-5.
Since the announcement, Level-5 has been tight-lipped about details. Originally slated for 2025, the release has now been pushed back to 2026. No official release date, no price, and no new images to reassure fans... Fans of Professor Layton will need to keep waiting a bit longer.
It has to be said that the last Professeur Layton game dates back to 2013: Professeur Layton et l'Héritage des Aslantes was released for Nintendo 3DS. A spin-off did come out on Switch, but it wasn't as successful as the previous games: L'Aventure Layton failed to convince fans.
The renowned puzzle-loving professor and faithful assistant Luke are back for another captivating adventure filled with twists—and plenty of riddles—in the new game, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam.
Gradually, this new chapter is starting to come into focus. While we’ll have to wait until 2026 to see the full release of the latest Professor Layton game, every trailer and teaser offers a deeper glimpse into this intriguing new mystery...
" This game depicts the world one year after the events of "Professor Layton and Lost Destiny". The story takes place in Steam Bison, America. There, the power of highly advanced steam engines has enabled the creation of a new world, greatly surpassing the technological development of London. Due to a mysterious incident at Steam Bison, a new adventure for Professor Layton and Luke begins."
As apprentice detectives, we're preparing for a new journey, into a new world of metal and steam. The aesthetic of the Layton games is back, with landscapes full of elements - and clickable locations.
This game takes us to the United States, to the town of Steam Bison. We discover a mysterious specter that seems intent on impeding the town's progress. Luke and the Professor will have to talk to the inhabitants and unravel the secret of this endangered city.
The next opus in the saga will once again be point-and-click, as we discover in this new trailer from Level-5. A gameplay system that isn't the most suitable for Nintendo Switch, but which is one of the trademarks of the successful license.
We discover slightly revised graphics, 3D cinematics, as for the 3DS, and an enigma that requires us to use our environment directly... The trailer released on September 24, 2024 promises a record number ofpuzzles to solve.
On November 29, 2024, a new trailer was released... Still without giving a precise release date. The video reveals a little of the game 's gameplay: arrows are used to move around the world's different districts, a train is used to make longer journeys, and a pointer in the form of a hand is used to interact with characters and interesting details on the screen.
Professor Layton is back in action. Now, it's just a matter of waiting and hoping: the game isn’t set to release until 2026 at the earliest. Maybe this gives us the perfect excuse to replay all the previous titles...
