At the Hôtel de la Marine, the two Paris Design Week installations are on show through the end of September.

During Paris Design Week, design loosens its tie in the capital and ventures beyond showroom spaces. Galleries, studios, institutions and monuments become as many stops where you can discover the new vocabularies of creation, craft métiers and materials that inspire designers and artisans. A walking tour through Paris that brings together heritage and contemporary creativity, with encounters that sometimes find a space suited to them. The new edition runs from September 10 to 19, 2026.

On Concorde Square, the Hôtel de la Marine is playing on two fronts with Hanjimania and Astre Mobile, presented September 9–27, 2026 (from the 10th for Hanjimania). A prized setting to talk about decorative arts, the former Crown Wardrobe houses, on one side, a millennial Korean paper, and, on the other, a transparent automobile crafted by artists. The two installations will extend beyond Paris Design Week and also be visible during the European Heritage Days, right at the heart of this 18th-century monument.

With Hanjimania, paper takes on volume. Curated by Catherine Lurault and An KangEun, the exhibition forges a meeting between French designers and Korean craftsmanship around hanji, produced for over a thousand years from mulberry fibers. Pierre Yovanovitch, Constance Guisset, Aline Asmar d’Amman, Studio KO, Harry Nuriev and Jérémy Pradier-Jeauneau explore this material by bringing it into furniture, lighting or more sculptural forms, alongside artists and Korean masters of art. Here, paper is not allowed to lie flat: translucent, pleated, woven or thickened, it becomes a true design material. Co-organized with the South Korean province of North Gyeongsang as part of the 140th anniversary of France–Korea diplomatic relations, the installation is included in the Hôtel de la Marine admission ticket (paid).

Just a few steps away, a shift in mood. In the Cour de l’Intendant, Astre Mobile turns a transparent car into a total artwork, part Art Car, part cabinet of curiosities. Created by Antoine Tauvel for Maison Lacmé, the piece brings together about ten French artisans around materials such as onyx, driftwood, leather, porcelain, urushi lacquer, feathers, shells and metallic embroidery. The dash features feather inlay, the hubcaps are carved from onyx, and the logo becomes jewelry, in a creation nurtured by drawings, maquettes and prototypes before the artisans take over. The first work born from this joint studio exploration, Astre Mobile nudges the car toward gesture, material and imagination. It is being shown for the first time at the Hôtel de la Marine and can be viewed for free, with no advance booking, in the Cour de l’Intendant.
