In the gardens of the National Archives, on the Soubise side, the French garden takes a few liberties. After “577 chairs: the citizen’s hemicycle,” Johanna de Clisson enters the sightlines with “Sculpture/Landscape: New Figures of the French Garden,” a installation comprising about ten white sandstone jardinière-sculptures. Geometry, symmetry, and the staging of plant life: the designer redraws the garden’s classic codes, making her shapes dialogue with the columns, the boxwoods, and the architecture of the Hôtel de Soubise.
