Paris Design Week 2026: a sculptural wooden bench takes over the gardens of the Hôtel de Rohan

Every autumn, Paris Design Week transforms the capital into a true urban design festival, with free and interactive installations popping up in iconic venues, galleries, studios and institutions. At the National Archives, curves take center stage. This year, Paris Design Week also brings the event to the gardens of the Hôtel de Rohan, reopened to the public in June 2026 after years of closure. The gallery maison parisienne presents Arabesque, a site-specific installation by Pierre Renart crafted for this patrimonial setting freshly accessible to visitors. In front of this early 18th-century townhouse, the designer and cabinetmaker mirrors the French parterre’s scrolls, bringing them into the space as a Moabi wood bench. His line unfolds, rises, then returns to form two seats, giving visitors a view both of the garden and of the historic façade. A ribbon motif typical of Pierre Renart, blending cabinetmaking techniques with laminated wood to create these continuous curves. Represented by maison parisienne since 2011 and featured notably in the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Mobilier national, the designer signs here a piece to look at, to touch, and above all to use.
