Hybrid and surprising sport, chessboxing blends boxing and chess. On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the Renaissance Theatre hosts an evening of strength and strategy, featuring four standout bouts!

English boxing and chess fights, in the same evening? It's possible at the Cabaret Sauvage, on Friday, February 3, 2023, starting at 7:30 pm. You are expected to attend four official chessboxing fights, a hybrid discipline that mixes physical and mental strength. During the course of the evening, eight fighters will face each other alternating six rounds of chess and five of boxing, where the winner will win either by KO, checkmate, on time or on referee's stoppage.

During this exceptional and unique show, the titles of French champion -85kg and world heavyweight champion will be at stake! On the program, commentaries and live music, halftime show, on the spot or live on Twitch ! But where does this unusual cerebral sport come from? Enki Bilal and Iepe Rubingh invented this sport to decide between the characters of their comic strip Nikopol, a combination of intelligence and animal instinct.

Since the first evening in 2019 in France, the followers of this sport and the curious who come to observe it are more and more numerous, while the discipline is democratized. In practice, a chessboard is installed in the center of the ring, on which the two competitors advance their pawns for three minutes, before the end of the duel and the beginning of another one. The gloves are then put on, while the chessboard is removed, for a fist fight. Duels out of the ordinary, a clever mix between calm and violence, between strength and brains, in a special atmosphere, to be discovered urgently!
