This Thursday, June 26, 2025, an exceptional feat will be attempted in the heart of the Stade Charléty, the temple of Parisian athletics. Athlete Faith Kipyegon will attempt to become the first woman to run a mile in under 4 minutes! World record holder for the mile and one of the most decorated middle-distance athletes in history, Faith is pursuing a feat long considered insurmountable, and which has remained beyond the reach of the most gifted female athletes until now, pushing back the limits of sport.
And everyone will be able to watch the attempt live, either on site or via livestream around the world. In Paris, the Charléty stadium will welcome fans free of charge from 5.30pm for an 8pm trial! Registration is open online on the website of Nike, the athlete's sponsor. For those unable to attend, the attempt will be streamed on Youtube, Instagram and Tiktok, as well as on Prime Video.
To reach this symbolic milestone, she will have to improve on her personal best of 7.65 seconds set in 2023 with a time of 4:07.64, beating a barrier first broken some 70 years ago by Roger Bannister. As a reminder, the mile is a unit of length representing 1,609 meters, the athlete being a regular first-place finisher in the 1500m at World Championships and Olympic Games, notably Paris 2024!
