It was in 1831 that Deyrolle, founded by the eponymous family, opened its doors: a wooden storefront with gilded capital letters, which now intrigues on the Rue du Bac. And with good reason: it's one of those unique places in the world that you can discover in Paris, an extraordinary cabinet of curiosities, renowned the world over. "It's first and foremost a store, but above all it's a place to visit," explains Valérie, the entomology manager.
Designed as a living museum, where you can meet the company's professionals who work on scenography and species restoration, Deyrolle is first and foremost a scientific and educational institution open to all. So, we cross the various rooms to discover bears, lions, foxes, birds and other naturalized specimens, but also, the rich collections of butterflies and beetles in the last room. " We like to work with professionals, specialists in their field and, above all, people who are passionate about what they do".
Moreover, the animals presented in the cabinet of curiosities are naturalized (and not stuffed), and no animals are killed for naturalization: they have died of old age or disease in parks, farms or zoos.
All in all, here you'll find insects, naturalized animals, birds, shells and seashells, as well as books on biodiversity, teaching boards, games and lots of scientific and educational content.
Anyone can buy naturalized insects (or animals) displayed in the cabinet of curiosities, even if you're not a collector! Our professional staff will be delighted to answer any questions you may have about taxidermy techniques, the provenance of our collections, your potential purchase... And that's the real wealth of this place (in addition to its extraordinary collections): it's above all a living museum, where enthusiasts and the curious exchange ideas, bringing a unique spirit that makes this address so valuable. In short, we urge you to discover this unusual cabinet of curiosities in Paris!
