Being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a genuine crowning achievement for a figure in the music world. It’s worth noting that several legends have already joined this Panthéon du rock and roll across the Atlantic, such as Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, The Supremes, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Clash, Metallica, Patti Smith, Pearl Jam, Joan Baez, Nina Simone, Nirvana, Radiohead, The Cure, ou encore Nine Inch Nails et Depeche Mode.
On April 14, 2026, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame pulled the curtain back and unveiled the inductees list for this year. In total, eight artists are named in the “Performer” category, namely Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan. Notably, a new record is set with six British acts being inducted in this main category this year.
Remember that Phil Collins has already been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It happened in 2010, but as a member of Genesis. This year, he receives his first nomination as a solo artist. By contrast, Sade and Billy Idol have been nominated a second time, while Iron Maiden had already been nominated three times. The same goes for Britpop group Oasis, which is nominated for the third year running in 2026.
While these eight artists are almost certainly going to be pleased by the news, others were sadly not selected. This includes New Edition, Mariah Carey, Ms. Lauryn Hill, INXS, P!nk, Jeff Buckley, The Black Crowes, Shakira and Melissa Etheridge.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has also confirmed the 2026 inductees in the Major Influences category: Fela Kuti, Gram Parsons, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Celia Cruz. Finally, the honorees for Musical Excellence are Rick Rubin, Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, and Jimmy Miller. Ed Sullivan will be inducted posthumously and will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
Note that the 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for December. It will be broadcast on ABC and Disney+.
Remember last year, The White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden, Bad Company, Chubby Checker and Joe Cocker were inducted.
