On August 17, 1991, AC/DC delivered a historic show at Donington Park in England. To relive that explosive musical moment and rediscover some of the hard rock giants of the Australian-British band, tune in to Arte this Friday, September 11, 2026, in the late-evening slot. A chance to dive back into their remarkable discography, powered by the mighty tracks "Thunderstruck", "Hells Bells" or "Highway to Hell".

After electrifying the Stade de France in summer 2025, AC/DC presses on with its Power Up tour across the Atlantic. On September 29, 2026, the Austro-British rockers will cap the trek in style with a show slated for Philadelphia. In the meantime, Arte Concert has decided to plunge AC/DC fans back into the band's storied past by broadcasting the legendary 1991 Donington Park live performance, part of the Monsters of Rock festival in the UK.

On August 17, 1991, in front of 72,000 festivalgoers, this landmark AC/DC concert stands as an anthology moment for both the Australian-British band and its fans. It’s fair to say the staging left a lasting impression, from the giant inflatable Rosie to the imposing bell during Hells Bells, and the row of cannons firing above the stadium’s perimeter... This hard rock set, then featuring guitarist brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, vocalist Brian Johnson, bassist Cliff Williams, and drummer Chris Slade, marked a true renaissance for AC/DC.

As the band faced a commercial decline in the late 1980s, AC/DC finally regains momentum with the album The Razors Edge, released in 1990. To immortalize this comeback and the Donington Park show, the production goes all out with no fewer than twenty-six cameras, including one mounted to a helicopter.

For almost two hours, the hard rock outfit fires off hit after hit, opening with Thunderstruck, then Back in Black, Jailbreak, Hells Bells, Highway to Hell, and You Shook Me All Night Long.

To discover or rediscover, on your screen, the 1991 AC/DC concert at Donington Park, filmed on 35mm film, head to Arte on Friday, September 11, 2026 starting at 11:25 p.m. For the impatient, the concert will also be available online, on Arte Concert, from September 4.
