Abd al Malik marks the 20th anniversary of Gibraltar at the Philharmonie

Twenty years after Gibraltar, Abd al Malik returns to the 2006 album with a new live production. Entitled Gibraltar, identités réconciliées, the show will be staged at the Philharmonie de Paris on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 8:00 PM, in the Grande salle Pierre Boulez. Over roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes, music, rap, singing, slam, dance and visual art come together around the themes of identity and reconciliation.

Abd al Malik's second solo album, Gibraltar, holds a special place in his body of work. Released in 2006, the record probes questions of identity and migration, while weaving together different musical and literary strands. For its 20th anniversary, the artist isn’t content to simply revive the album on stage: he’s using it as the launchpad for a new project focused on identities and dialogue with others.

This new production, titled Gibraltar, identités réconciliées, unfolds as a multidisciplinary show. Orality takes center stage, weaving together rap, slam, and singing, as the music blends with dance and visual elements. It offers a fresh lens on the themes of Gibraltar twenty years on from its release, not as a simple anniversary re-staging of the original concert.

Abd al Malik is joined on stage by Matteo Falkone on rap and backing vocals, Bilal on the machines and DJing, Izo Diop on bass, Didier Davidas on keyboards, Franck Mantegari on drums, and Christophe Pinheiro on guitar. Salomon Asaro takes part in the dance segment.

The Paris date thus marks a new chapter in the life of Gibraltar, ahead of several tour dates already announced. At the Philharmonie, the October 3 concert offers a glimpse into how Abd al Malik revisits today an album two decades old, through a live format broadened to other disciplines.
