Les Deux Frères et les Lions returns to the Théâtre de l'Œuvre from September 16 to December 23, 2026, with performances on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM. The show runs for one hour. Hédi Tillette de Clermont-Tonnerre wrote the script and shares directing duties with Vincent Debost.

The announced cast brings together Lisa Pajon alternating with Naïm Bakhtiar, and Hédi Tillette de Clermont-Tonnerre alternating with Clara Artur-Vaude, with Christian Nouaux in a supporting role. The story follows the rise of two Scottish twins and the hurdles they face as they attempt to pass their fortune on to their daughters.

Our take on an earlier performance:

For two centuries now, people around the world have been able to rise from rags to riches and go from beggar to billionaire. Fairy-tale versions of the American Dream abound; yet the dream they carry seems stained by indignity... That's capitalism in a nutshell: wealth grows at the expense of others, sometimes counted in the thousands.

It's the fate of the two twin brothers in the play Les Deux Frères et les lions, written by Hédi Tillette de Clermont-Tonnerre and staged in a prior revival by him and by Vincent Debost: hailing from a very poor background in Britain, the twins face stigma and hatred... Until they amass wealth to the point of becoming billionaires. Decades later, in the 1990s, they reunite to discuss the legacy they will leave to their daughters.

Several issues come to light… The systemic injustice of capitalist society becomes clear as their exchanges unfold.

The play’s script draws on a true story, which gives the piece its distinctive flavor. The actors sit by a crackling fireplace and tell the lives of the characters over a hot cup of tea; at times the rhythm pauses to give way to cinematic interludes that illuminate key moments in their lives.
