La Révolution française, the rock opera at Théâtre le 13e Art

La Révolution Française is the new rock opera to be discovered at 13e Art, a stone's throw from the Place d'Italie. Fifty years after Claude-Michel Schönberg and Raymond Jeannot's "Révolution Francaise", considered the first rock opera, the musical is back, directed by Ned Grujic.

The French Revolution is on at the 13th Art from May 3, 2024. In a 900-seat auditorium, a cast of 24 artists will take you back to the height of the French Revolution. A rock opera that should make history.

The musical features an immersive staging with Ned Grujic at the helm. The director, after Le livre de la jungle (nominated for a Molière in 2024), Petit ours brun and Sacha contre Guitry, wants you to experience the tumult of the Revolution. The musical director is Raphael Sanchez, known for Le Roi lion, Les Misérables and The Rocky Horror Show . Specializing in musical theater, Raphael Sanchez has composed music for some 40 plays and numerous musicals. The composer was also Charles Aznavour 's pianist for several years.

We find ourselves transported to 1789. Two protagonists, Charles Gauthier and Isabelle de Montmorency, are in love. The son of a shopkeeper, Charles throws himself heart and soul into the Revolution. Not so Isabelle, daughter of the nobility, who is exiled with the royal family. She returns a few years later, during the Terror, to find Charles imprisoned ...
