Paris is Magique, a new musical comedy celebrating Paris and its people, is set to play at the Gaîté Rive Gauche from June 23, 2026. The show is written and directed by Sacha Judaszko and Nicolas Nebot, based on an original idea by Sacha Judaszko, with music by Dominique Mattei and choreography by Patricia Delon.
The plot follows Nicolas, a Parisian doctor who has been living in Tokyo for several years, as he returns to Paris with Kim, his Japanese fiancée. She knows the capital only from movies and TV, with a highly idealized image of the city. On the flight, Nicolas hears talk of the “Paris syndrome,” depicted as the shock some Japanese tourists feel when confronted with the gap between their dream of Paris and the reality of the city.
To spare Kim any discomfort, Nicolas opts to shield her from the city’s rougher realities. Traffic jams, the high cost of living, insecurity, rudeness, and grime become, in his telling, elements reshaped to preserve the image of a dreamlike Paris. The show thus rests on the tension between a romantic cliché and everyday Paris life.
The cast features Estelle Danière, Joy Esther, Thierry Gondet, Véronique Hatat, Laurent Kiefer, Lorie Lina and Christophe Mai. The production will premiere with English subtitles, a 1 hour 30 minute running time with no intermission, and performances from Wednesday to Saturday evenings, with daytime shows on weekends.
With its focus on Paris, its residents, and the capital’s international image, Paris is Magique is aimed especially at fans of spectacle musical and at viewers curious to see how the musical can seize Parisian contradictions on stage.
