Tiago Rodrigues revisits Euripides' Hecuba in a disturbing staging where ancient tragedy resonates with contemporary drama. A show to discover from May 28 to July 21, 2025 at the Salle Richelieu.

For his first production with the Troupe de la Comédie-Française, Tiago Rodrigues, director of the Avignon Festival, takes on the fate of Hecuba, the fallen Trojan queen, a figure of pain and revolt. True to his approach to theater as a direct dialogue with the audience, he blends the voice of the ancient character with that of a woman of today: an actress and mother whose intimate story overlaps that of Hecuba. As the actress rehearses the play, her own personal drama unfolds: the struggle for justice in the face of the abuse suffered by her autistic son.

In a twilight setting, Tiago Rodrigues ' staging weaves an interplay of reflections between Greek tragedy and contemporary reality. The line between fiction and reality is blurred: the time ofHecuba 's rehearsals is matched by that of a judicial inquiry, and the Trojan queen's quest for justice becomes the mirror of a present-day struggle. Premiered at the Avignon Festival in 2024, the show has since traveled across Europe before entering the Comédie-Française repertoire.
