As part of the Palazzetto Bru Zane Paris Festival, from May 24 to June 3, 2025, the Théâtre du Châtelet presents an evening dedicated to Georges Bizet, with "L'Arlésienne" and "Le Docteur Miracle".

The 150th anniversary of Georges Bizet 's death provides an opportunity to highlight two contrasting works by the composer: L'Arlésienne, inspired by Alphonse Daudet, and Le Docteur Miracle, a one-act operetta created when Bizet was just 18. The evening is part of the Palazzetto Bru Zane Paris Festival, which promotes French Romantic music. Staging and costumes for both works are by Pierre Lebon, in a production brought to you by the Palazzetto Bru Zane - Centre de musique romantique française.

Today,L'Arlésienne is best known for its orchestral suite, but the complete incidental music will be rediscovered at Théâtre du Châtelet . Conceived as a musical tale, this adaptation features a narrator, an actor-dancer, two dancers and four singers. The musicologist Hervé Lacombe, Bizet's biographer, is behind this rereading, which aims to restore all the dramatic and musical richness of the work.

Le Docteur Miracle, meanwhile, is a light, lively operetta about a young man's schemes to marry Laurette, the daughter of the Podestà of Padua. To achieve his ends, he poses as a mysterious doctor with dubious methods. Created in 1857 at the Bouffes Parisiens by Jacques Offenbach, this comic gem was long forgotten before being rediscovered in 1951. One of its most famous arias, the "quatuor de l'omelette" ("omelette quartet"), received a standing ovation at the first performance.
