Jon Fosse makes waiting the focus of And We’ll Never Be Separated. The production, directed by Daniel Jeanneteau and Mammar Benranou and first staged in 2025, returns with Dominique Reymond, Yann Boudaud and Solène Arbel. Three presences shape a story in which memories and apparitions constantly shift the ground beneath us.
A woman organizes her life around an absent man. She clings to rituals, pieces together fragments of their life together and believes she sees him return. The arrival of a young girl further complicates the situation: the characters do not all seem to perceive the same reality. The play leaves open the questions raised by these encounters.
This second play by the Norwegian writer, winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature, explores loss, absence and loneliness. The French translation is by Terje Sinding, and the text is published by L’Arche. Silences and repeated speech are part of the writing, in which waiting can also take on a comic dimension.
Jeanneteau and Benranou also designed the set for this T2G production, with music by Olivier Pasquet. The work is contemporary theater, focusing on the characters’ inner lives rather than a plot built around a series of explanations.
