From September 13 to December 17, 2017, the Fondation Cartier-Bresson exhibits about a hundred of pictures taken across the globe by photographer Raymond Depardon.

But who really is Raymond Depardon? Born in 1942, the French artist multiplies hats (photographer, director and writer) and travels the world to take pictures and his look on the world. We recently saw his excellent documentary Les Habitants (Inhabitants) that lead us through the roads of France mixing glee and melancholia. This time, the Fondation Cartier-Bresson gives pride of place to photos on coated paper by organizing a wonderful exhibition.

From Glasgow’s inactive streets to Park Avenue’s luxury, the photographer bird-dogs indicative visions that mean more than moments. Thanks to clever composition, often geometrical, Raymond Depardon seizes atmospheres. Means are modest and no photograph is tawdry but the charm of his art works through journeys in an inexpressible manner.

Here is an artist that never stopped being on the road, doubting and moving. Never frozen, his work sometimes ends on blurry pictures that tell his liveliness.
