In the footsteps of Atget, the photo exhibition to discover at the Domaine de Sceaux

Eugène Atget immortalized the Domaine de Sceaux with his camera between 1925 and 1927. A century later, the estate invites us to (re)discover these pictures with the exhibition In the footsteps of Atget, organized from March 10 to December 15, 2023.

In 2023, the Domaine de Sceaux celebrates the 100th anniversary of its rebirth. For this occasion, the historical monument proposes to take a little dive into the past, in order to see the numerous evolutions of the domain, in a century of existence.

For this, we can count on Eugène Atget. The French artist photographed the gardens of Sceaux, its monuments, its statues, its flowerbeds and its animals in all their details, between 1925 and 1927. These photographs allow us to (re)discover the Domaine as it was almost one hundred years ago, and above all, to see all the changes made over the years!

Eugène Atget is known for his documentary photographs of Paris. He is particularly attentive to the details of the architecture he observes, and to the different elements that allow us to dive into the scene, as if we were there. This particular look takes us today to the four corners of the Domaine de Sceaux. The exhibition In the Footsteps of Atget, organized from March 10 to December 15, 2023, brings together some fifteen photographs, to be found in the park.

This artistic stroll superimposes the past and the present. The Aurora pavilion, the Octagon basin, the plain of the Quatre-statues... These different places are revealed: one can thus compare the old gardens with their wild vegetation to the current park, carefully maintained and ordered.

This cultural journey in the heart of the Domaine de Sceaux allows us to benefit from exceptionalarchives, a testimony of a bygone era, but decisive in the history of the historic monument.
