A plunge into prehistory through rock art, that's what the Musée de l'Homme in Paris is offering us with Préhistomania, an exhibition-event that runs from November 17, 2023 to May 20, 2024.

Want to travel back in time to the very beginnings of mankind? Then get ready for a journey into the heart of prehistory. From November 17, 2023 to May 20, 2024, the Musée de l'Homme in Paris will be staging a major exhibition: Prehistomania.

The exhibition takes us on a journey of discovery ofrock art, featuring the earliest works created by our ancestors, as well as the relievers who brought them to public attention. These drawings, which tell us about the daily lives and beliefs of early man, are precious testimonies to thehistory of humanity.

The exhibition features over 200 documents, photographs and objects from the period, including some 60 original drawings. Some of these reproductions are up to 15 metres long, giving us an overview of cave paintings and drawings found all over the world. Centuries and countries pass before our eyes, taking us back in time to prehistoric times.

The Préhistomania exhibition offers us a tête-à-tête with these impressive frescoes, before revealing the process by which they were created. The Musée de l'Homme takes us back to the expeditions of Frobenius, Breuil, Lhote and Bailloud, where we understand the different working methods of these passionate scientists.

Prehistory has fascinated the public for many years: the proof is in these two historical exhibitions reconstituted in the Musée de l'Homme's itinerary. You can admire surveys and modern works from the 1933 exhibition at the Musée d'ethnographie du Trocadéro ( 1933) and the 1937 exhibition at MoMa in New York. For us, it's an opportunity to discover avant-garde works that echo cave art.

The Prehistomania exhibition should appeal to younger visitors, who discover a fascinating period of history through impressive works, original settings and a manual activity that puts us in the shoes of a lifter. Older visitors remain in awe of these astonishing millenary paintings, often unknown to the general public.

An exhibition for the whole family, not to be missed at the Musée de l'Homme!
