To mark the centenary of Ellsworth Kelly's birth, the Fondation Louis Vuitton pays tribute to the abstract artist with the exhibition Forms and Colors, on view from May 7 to September 9, 2024.

With a career spanning almost 70 years, hundreds of works, several awards and undeniable recognition from the art world, Ellsworth Kelly is undoubtedly one of the greatest abstract artists of his time. The American painter and sculptor is honored in a major retrospective organized by the Fondation Louis Vuitton, in association with the Glenstone Museum and the Ellsworth Kelly Studio.

The exhibition, entitled " Ellsworth Kelly, Formes et Couleurs, 1949-2015 " , runs from May 7 to September 9, 2024. Over a hundred exceptional paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and collages are on show, demonstrating the richness and finesse of Ellsworth Kelly's art.

Related to the abstract and minimalist movement, the American artist is a master of his genre. Vivid colors, simple shapes, contrasts and carefully crafted associations: these are the hallmarks of this original, independent creator, detached from any fashion or trend.

Ellsworth Kelly sought to explore the links between shapes, colors, space, lines... He drew inspiration from the world around him and created for the love of beauty. Deceptively simplistic, his canvases in fact conceal a mastery of gesture and line.

The exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton highlights key works from the artist's career, from his early days to his latest creations. The tour also reveals the great diversity of these pieces: rarely exhibited photographs, series of drawings, early paintings, collages or monochrome works...

Among the highlights of this exhibition is Yellow Curve, a pioneering painting in Ellsworth Kelly's art: the installation covers more than 60 m², and is presented in a space specially created for the occasion. Also on view are Tableau Vert (1952), Painting in Three Panels (1956)... Not forgetting, of course, Spectrum VIII, a monumental work commissioned in 2014 by the Fondation Louis Vuitton to decorate its auditorium.

Don't miss this exceptional retrospective, dedicated to a major artist of abstract art.
