On Île Saint-Louis, the Polish Library of Paris not only holds a remarkable collection of literary works but also features three intimate museums dedicated to Chopin, Mickiewicz, and Bolesław Biegas—perfect for those eager to explore France's rich cultural ties with Poland.

Located at 6 Quai d’Orléans, behind a modest facade on the Île Saint-Louis, is one of Paris’s most intriguing hidden gems: the Polish Library. Established in 1838 by Polish exiles fleeing the failed insurrection against the Russian Empire, it was founded with a singular purpose: to safeguard the memories and cultural heritage of a nation robbed of its sovereignty.

Since 1853, the library has been housed in a stunning 17th-century townhouse, where it holds thousands of documents, manuscripts, and works of art. The site also features three small museums and hosts exhibitions throughout the year.

Three Museums Inside a Library

The Frédéric Chopin Lounge

An elegant gallery showcasing memorabilia of the legendary composer: sheet music, portraits, personal belongings—and even a replica of his hand and death mask. A touching space that brings to life Chopin’s Parisian experience.

The Adam Mickiewicz Museum

This exhibit celebrates Poland’s great Romantic poet. His son has curated a collection of letters, manuscripts, objects, and memorabilia to tell the story of this influential writer, a key figure in Polish cultural history.

The Bolesław Biegas Museum

Painter, sculptor, poet... Biegas was a true Renaissance artist. This museum showcases his symbolist works alongside pieces by other Polish artists living in France. A fascinating glimpse into the vibrant artistic community of the Polish diaspora.
