The Louvre Museum brings two great masters of sculpture into dialogue in an exhibition that takes us behind the secrets of creation: from April 15 to July 20, 2026, don't miss "Michelangelo / Rodin".

Four centuries separate them. Here they are brought together in a single exhibition—an exceptional artistic encounter to be discovered at the Louvre from April 15 to July 20, 2026. The Paris museum presents "Michel-Ange / Rodin", an exhibition that lets two of Western sculpture's giants converse, and reveals the lasting influence they still wield in the art world.

Rodin, the Frenchman; Michelangelo, the Italian: two towering artists, two indispensable figures in art. But also two sculptors who relentlessly explored, shaped, and represented the body. The Louvre Museum opens a dialogue between their two visions of the body and the soul, by presenting various statues and sculptures that reflect their work and their pursuit of revealing the spirit behind the flesh.

This exhibition is organized into five sections, each showcasing a wide array of works including numerous bronze pieces, marble sculptures, plaster casts, terracotta works, and molds. Additionally, it features a rich collection of drawings and graphic works that offer insight into the creative process of each artist.

Throughout this journey, visitors explore both the similarities and distinctive features that define each sculptor. Rodin and Michelangelo have left an indelible mark on the art world and shaped generations of artists. Drawing inspiration from ancient models and nature itself, they aimed to capture the essence of life: that inner strength often hidden beneath the muscles or the facial expressions...

Sculpting a body is far too simple for them. What the two artists sought was the representation of the invisible: to grasp a soul, an emotion, the very essence of life that shapes these muscles and these faces... In this quest, the sculptors experimented, sometimes shedding the traditional codes of sculpture. Some works may even appear unfinished, with more abstract lines: all of it is intentional.

The Louvre Museum deciphers how the two artists immortalized gestures and bodies, giving them life. The exhibition also questions the legacy left by the sculptors: how their art is perceived, which elements can appeal, and which may have driven 20th‑century artists to break completely with their own style. The route features works from different centuries, highlighting this influence that Rodin and Michelangelo have exerted on their peers.

This exhibition is sure to delight sculpture lovers: it brings together two absolute masters, along with a few other artists, from past to present. The display showcases numerous works and ventures into the technical side of creation. Visitors will also encounter study drawings and examples of the artists’ creative processes...

Because of the age and fragility of Michelangelo's works, the Italian master is somewhat less represented in the exhibition than Rodin. The display features many copies and sculptures that emulate Michelangelo, helping visitors gain a clearer sense of his artistry.

Two geniuses, two artists who meet and reveal themselves at the Louvre Museum: don’t miss this exhibition, destined to be a must-see for sculpture lovers.
