Soft lighting, an immersive soundtrack, and pirates in high spirits: we’re getting a first look at the new One Piece space launching at the musée Grévin, in the 9e arrondissement de Paris, and it opens its doors this Friday, 26 June 2026. The Straw Hat crew from Eiichiro Oda’s manga celebrate in a setup inspired by a Parisian cabaret. A first for this Grands Boulevards museum, which for the first time hosts characters from Japanese animation.
During our visit, Monkey D. Luffy, the captain with the famous straw hat, takes center stage on a small, bulb-lit platform, while the swordsman Roronoa Zoro is about to sit down to a meal. The staging fully leans into a festive vibe, and you can already picture fans lingering to snap shots of each character.
A real treat in store: these statues aren't wax figures, unlike the rest of the museum's displays. They were entirely designed in Japan, under the guidance of Toei Animation, and some of them far exceed human proportions, true to the series' larger-than-life scale.
A detail that changes everything up close: the figures are dressed in real fabric clothing. It gives each silhouette more depth and reinforces the sense that they’re really there.
The set design was conceived by the Grévin Museum in collaboration with Toei Animation. The whole installation, dubbed the "Cabaret of the Sun," blends One Piece's pirate universe with a French music-hall vibe, featuring a hidden wink that lets the lighting shift to suit the mood.
An original visual, created jointly by the two partners, accompanies the event and is rolled out across a range of exclusive merchandise sold only at the museum shop. And for a savvy launch, note that an exclusive promotional card for the One Piece Card Game is being given to the first 50,000 visitors with a ticket, while supplies last. The choice of the saga is far from arbitrary. "The manga is something highly anticipated by the new generations," says Yves Delhommeau, director of the Grévin Museum, to AFP. He also notes that One Piece has become even more emblematic as its skull-and-straw-hat flag has been prominently waved in recent months at demonstrations around the world.
On the numbers side, Eiichiro Oda’s manga, created in 1997 and adapted two years later into an animated series by Toei Animation, is today the best-selling manga in the world, with over 600 million copies sold. The series now boasts more than 1,160 episodes aired.
Our standout moment goes to Luffy's scene, perched on a dais studded with bulbs: the cabaret vibe hits and instantly makes you want to pull out your phone. The Straw Hat crew joins Gautier Capuçon, DJ Snake, Squeezie, or Clara Luciani at the center of the immersive journey, and it’s highly likely it’ll become one of visitors’ favorite stops.
Good news: the One Piece space is here for the long haul, with a run announced through December 31, 2029. The Grévin Museum is located at 10 Boulevard Montmartre in Paris’s 9th arrondissement, accessible via Grands Boulevards or Richelieu–Drouot metro stations. Expect to pay between €10 and €28 depending on the date and the package you choose, with tickets available to book online at the online ticketing or on the museum’s official site.
