The Tour Jean Sans Peur debunks preconceived notions with its exhibition "Hygiene in the Middle Ages," on display from March 12 to January 25, 2026.

In the Middle Ages, people were dirty and didn't wash, they had black teeth and fleas everywhere... Really? The Tour Jean Sans Peur aims to debunk these preconceptions and clichés with its exhibition "Hygiene in the Middle Ages," on display from March 12, 2025, to January 25, 2026.

The medieval tower is organizing an exhibition on the theme of hygiene, in order to re-establish some historical truths, and shed light on this little-known era. Using illuminations, paintings and period artworks, this exhibition will illustrate the various sanitary and aesthetic practices of the Middle Ages.

Toiletries and baths, beauty products: the people of this remote era knew how to take care of their health and their bodies, despite the difficult living conditions. Archaeologists have unearthed numerous accessories and containers for the care of hands, feet, teeth... The nobility and the wealthy were particularly concerned with their appearance and the state of their homes.

The Tour Jean Sans Peur presents a fascinating exhibition on these intimate and social practices, the health rituals that punctuated the daily lives of medieval men and women.
