Usually, the galerie Roger-Viollet presents images of Paris and France in the past, drawing on its extensive photographic holdings. This summer, more modern images can be admired in the art gallery. From June 5 to September 13, 2025, Galerie Roger-Viollet hosts the exhibition Paname Rendez-vous. 13 bis X Mr. Djub.
These two contemporary artists come together for a surprising and amusing collaboration. Mr. Djub is a master of collage: a pair of scissors, a bit of glue, and an ordinary photograph suddenly becomes an unusual, funny, surreal cliché. Street-artist 13 bis is also adept at the art of collage, this time on city walls. The two creators meet again at Galerie Roger-Viollet for a duo exhibition full of surprises.
13 bis and Mr. Djub chose various snapshots of Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries from the Roger-Viollet gallery collections. Armed with their talent, they then twisted and reinvented these images, creating a zany, colorful, dreamlike City of Light.
Animals, characters and monuments dance on these old photographs, telling a new story. Each contemporary artist has imagined 14 original works for this exhibition, 14 little worlds mixing photography, drawing, engraving, illustrated newspapers... To complete the tour, Galerie Roger-Viollet presents a selection of photographs from its collections: scenes from the past enter into a zany dialogue with contemporary creations by Mr. Djub and 13 bis.
The style of these two artists is also reminiscent of the artistic experiments of early 20th-century photographers, who also played with images, shadows and drawings to create new, surreal images.
Between past and present, reality and surrealism, these images transport us to an unexpected Paris... Come and discover!
