The sharp, critical eye of Martin Parr is on display in a groundbreaking exhibition opening in Paris at the Maison de la Photographie from January 30 to May 24, 2026. The photographer, who recently passed away, is honored in a show that spans five decades of his work and travels around the world.
This exhibition, titled Global Warning, revisits key themes from Martin Parr's body of work: the artist highlights the excesses and the distortions within our societies, as well as the social and environmental imbalances caused by our way of life, spanning from the 1970s to today.
The exhibition's journey brings together several series of photographs, spanning from the artist's early work to recent creations from 2024. For decades, the photographer has explored human actions and mass behaviors that reveal social issues. Equipped with his camera, he documents the evolution of tourism, transportation, and our relationship with technology...
The artist presents himself as a chronicler of human behaviors, not a moralist. As he often notes, he travels and observes just as much as the people he Photographs, and therefore refrains from passing judgment.
The Jeu de Paume petal opens its doors to showcase 180 artworks, organized across five themes. The British artist offers a sharply sarcastic, often ironic perspective, sometimes poetic, sometimes weary, on humanity’s role in planetary destruction, the complex relationships between humans and animals, the excesses of consumer society, and the ways in which human leisure activities reshape the environment.
Portraits, everyday scenes, and landscapes—spanning Ireland, the United States, Latin America, Japan, India, and the United Arab Emirates... Across the globe, in all possible formats, Martin Parr captures the essence of human behavior, showcasing its quirks and highlighting both poetic moments and the absurdities of everyday life.
This major posthumous exhibition pays tribute to a renowned artist who remained true to his ideals throughout his career. The Jeu de Paume kicks off this year 2026 with a show that explores the work of one of the greatest photographers of the 20th and 21st centuries.
