The Cartier Foundation welcomes artist Ibrahim Mahama and his Ghanaian collaborators for a major multidisciplinary exhibition, on view from 22 October 2026 to 28 February 2027.

Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama and about a dozen of his fellow artists take over the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, from October 22, 2026 to February 28, 2027. Across all levels of the foundation, the artist presents his works and installations, tracing the history and culture of Ghana.

The exhibition Le Temps des récoltes brings together new works created specifically for Fondation Cartier, alongside iconic installations from Ibrahim Mahama's world, reimagined for the show. These pieces are displayed throughout the Foundation's exhibition spaces, in a wide-ranging route that traces the artist's career.

Ibrahim Mahama draws inspiration from his homeland to shape his art. From colonial and postcolonial legacies to politics, labor and industry, to the movement of goods and the restitution of heritage, and even the idea of degrowth, his work seeks to illuminate Ghana—its distinctive culture and the country’s possible futures. In his pieces, the artist threads in moments such as the country’s independence, the 1966 coup, and the great factory that embodied the early president’s decentralization policy.

The artist also collaborates with local contemporary artists. These collaborations are showcased at the Foundation, illustrating the strength and power of art in culture.

Photography, visual works, paintings, screenprints and textile creations, installations: these artists tell the story of their country, spotlight the people who keep it thriving, and reflect the traditions and shifts that have shaped society... Through art, Ibrahim Mahama and his peers are investing in their culture and the future of their nation.

The exhibition fills the Foundation’s entire space, spanning multiple levels and revealing a remarkably varied body of work. Contemporary pieces converse with one another and different worlds collide. The layout can feel a touch fragmented—the Foundation itself is quite labyrinthine. The art center is expansive, and visitors aren’t guided along a fixed itinerary. That freedom is compelling, offering fresh perspectives on the works, but it’s easy to lose your bearings and miss pieces along the way.

Many of these installations carry symbolic weight: to grasp the messages hidden within, you need to take the time to read the wall texts and calmly study the works to catch every detail.
