DIE & RETRY: a free-to-play exhibition at the Magasins Généraux in Pantin

In DIE & RETRY, the audience can take part in what it is watching. At Magasins Généraux de Pantin, the Angels Front collective presents an exhibition-residency built around a fictional family and the visitors who come to meet them.

The A22 Family trains to face a world in which the media, social networks, artificial intelligence and deepfakes can shape perceptions. Its members are played by performers. Their interactions, improvisations and the audience’s reactions drive the simulation forward.

Each person chooses how to engage with the installation: observe, suggest a change to the scenario, interact with the characters, or take the place of one of them. The connection to video games lies in the possibility of replaying a scene and changing how it unfolds. Here, the experience takes place with people, in an exhibition space.

This participatory format offers a way to explore the mechanisms of manipulation and disinformation through fictional scenarios. The experience therefore goes beyond reading explanations about new technologies: it invites visitors to observe how the characters react, then try making different choices.

Curated by Anna Labouze and Keimis Henni, the exhibition is accompanied by simulations with Famille A22 and a DIY or DIE tour-workshop, which invites visitors to try out the collective’s working methods. Open training sessions also give visitors access to rehearsals by the artists and performers.
